The Leyland Cypress is a large, very fast-growing evergreen tree. Its ability to grow quickly has made it very popular to use as a hedging and screening plant to ensure privacy and absorb sound. Its one of the most commonly planted trees in Britain. Leylandii can grow at over 90cm (3ft) a year.
The 'Blue Jeans' variety has small distinctive blue-green scale leaves in flat sprays, slightly fluffier than the traditional Leyland cypress. The density of the foliage makes the species ideal for hedging and screening but also for certain forms of topiary.
