This variety of Holly is a garden hybrid bred partly from the common English holly. It is very hardy and tolerates most soils and air conditions. The leaves are particularly handsome with wide bright yellow irregular margins. They are flat and shapely and almost spine-free. During the autumn and winter a crowded crop of berries can be found amongst the colourful leaves.
This holly has been carefully trained to form a topiary shape. It needs regular clipping to keep the shape and maintain the formal look of the plant.
Topiarised hollies are especially attractive in pairs, for example in pots to frame a doorway or in the ground in a formal planting scheme. Or use singly at the centre of a design or to provide an attractive focal point in a garden.
